ABOUT

Davao City also has the CITY ORDINANCE NO. 1457 “An ordinance prohibiting the loosening or letting astray of dogs/cattle in the City of Davao providing for the catching and impounding of the same collection of fees for impounding them providing further for their disposition when not claimed within a certain period and providing for penalty in case of violation thereof.” and Republic Act No. 9482 or the Anti-Rabies Act of 2007 “AN ACT PROVIDING FOR THE CONTROL AND ELIMINATION OF HUMAN AND ANIMAL RABIES, PRESCRIBING PENALTIES FOR VIOLATION THEREOF AND APPROPRIATING FUNDS THEREFOR.”

Republic Act No. 9482 or the Anti-Rabies imposes the following penalties:
● P 2,000.00 for pet owners who fail to have their dog registered and immunized;
● P 10,000.00 for those who refuse to have their dog placed under observation after it has a bitten person;
● P 25,000.00 for pet owners who refused to shoulder the medical expenses of the bitten person;
● P 500.00 for dog owners who refuse to put their dog on leash;
● P 5,000.00 per dog for those found guilty of trading dog for meat and imprisonment for one year to four years; and
● P 5,000.00 per act and imprisonment of one to 4 years for those who use electrocution as a method of euthanasia

Aside from the City Pound Building, the new City Pound Compound also consists of Animal Crematorium and Animal Rehabilitation Facilities. The Animal Rehabilitation Facility will accommodate animals for rehabilitation for at least 7-14 days before it will be released for adoption in accordance with Davao City Adopt a Dog and Cat (DADC) Ordinance.

With the better facility, the head of the City Veterinarian’s Office, Dr. Cerelyn B. Pinili, encourages all pet owners to be responsible because an individual’s decision to own a pet corresponds with a life-long responsibility and commitment. The problem we have with Rabies and stray animals will be solved if all pet-owners in Davao City embrace the practices of Responsible Pet Ownership (RPO).
